DC Residential Sales Verification Questionnaire

Do You Know about the DC Residential Sales Verification Questionnaire?

If you recently bought a home in DC, you should soon thereafter expect to receive a letter from an appraiser with the Office of Tax and Revenue asking you to complete the DC Residential Sales Verification Questionnaire.

The questionnaire asks you to complete specific property data such as number of bedrooms/bathrooms, heating/ac, property condition, etc., and the purpose is to assist the DC appraiser with gathering accurate information to arrive at a more accurate tax assessment.

Are you required to complete the form?

No, there is no requirement to complete the form and no penalty associated with failure to complete the form.

What are the advantages for completing the form?

By completing the form, you may be providing data that will prompt the appraiser to correct faulty or conflicting internal data.  In many cases, this may result in a lower taxable assessment.  You may also avoid a physical inspection by a DC appraiser.
